Who we areBabalú Band

We are a musical formation of retro spirit born in 2015 in Valencia, a band in the style of the great American bands of jazz, swing and soul. Babalú is composed of six excellent musicians, the stylish female vocal trio The Croquettes and Juanjo Navarro as "crooner" vocalist. Our elegant proposal with personality fits perfectly in all kinds of occasions: concerts, festivals, corporate events, private celebrations, popular festivals or cultural programs of municipalities.

The repertoire covers a wide variety of styles - swing, jazz, soul, rhythm & blues, rock & roll, funk or disco - guaranteeing a magical evening full of energy, emotion and unforgettable moments for all kinds of audiences.

Babalu Band adapts its format to the needs of each event, offering different configurations depending on the space, budget or type of audience. From an intimate formation with a crooner and basic accompaniment, to a full band of ten members, with a powerful and sophisticated staging.

Our repertoire includes swing classics interpreted by figures such as Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé, emblematic soul songs by Aretha Franklin or Marvin Gaye, and versions of contemporary artists such as Robbie Williams, Christina Aguilera, Queen or Rihanna. We also incorporate well-known movie soundtracks such as Pulp Fiction, The Jungle Book or Dirty Dancing, guaranteeing a dynamic show full of musical winks for all tastes.

    She has a degree in jazz at the Conservatory of Valencia and collaborates in various projects, such as the Big Band of Sedajazz Workshop, Babalu Band and Nina Dinamita & La Swing Milicia, among other formations of the Valencian jazz scene. In May we could see her in Jimmy Glass performing as a guest of the great saxophonist Berta Moreno.

    Javi Albiñana Pavía was born in Valencia.
    Double bass and electric bass player. He studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Joaquín Rodrigo" in Valencia, graduating in the specialty of Jazz.

    He has been part of many different projects. An example of this is his collaboration with different bands of various musical styles in the recording of the eclectic CD Músicas del Carmen, recorded in 2000. The objective of the album was to gather the creative concerns of a group of artists, both musical and plastic, as well as sound and image technicians, whose link consisted in having their center of activity in the popular neighborhood of El Carmen in Valencia.

    With one of the soloists appearing on that recording, Julio Galcerá, he recorded the album Celeste Algarabía in 2001.

    In 2004 he participates with singer and composer José Flores in the recording of the soundtrack for a television series called Mentiras. At the same time, together with Edu Olmedo on drums, Javier Mustieles on keyboards and Nando Domínguez on guitar, he accompanies this artist in a series of concerts in Argentina presenting the album José Flores.

    With the singer-songwriter Lola Bou collaborates in the recording in 2010 of the album La Ment en Blau and accompanies her in the presentation concerts. Original music and lyrics by the author herself.

    Later, as a member of the Nacho Belda Gypsy Quintet, he recorded in 2012 the album Dayrider, in which the author, through his own songs, reinterprets with his personal vision the Gypsy jazz style of Django Reinhardt.
    Frequent collaborator of the multifaceted artist Bertomeu, in 2016 they perform several performances commemorating the "Miquel Martí i Pol" Award that was granted to the artist in 2015 in its VIII Edition within the framework of the Certamen Terra i Cultura. In 2022 he records the album entitled Como qui
    empaita un estel.

    He is a founding member of the groups The Swing Machine and First Light Jazz Sextet and also collaborates regularly with the Babalú Swing Band. In 2017 he joined the Marina Alcantud Trio project.

    He has accompanied several jazz musicians, especially from the Valencian scene, being able to highlight among them Ramón Cardo, Toni Belenguer, Voro García, Josvi Muñoz, Kiko Berenguer, Vicent Macián, Javier Vercher, Jesus Santandreu, David Pastor, Fabio Miano, Ximo Tébar, Felipe Cucciardi, Ricardo Belda, Jeff Jerolamon, Luis Ramos, Santi Navalón, Alberto Palau, Celia Mur, Cristina Blasco, Danna Leese or Jose Luis Gámez among others.

Currently, he is part of several active groups such as Babalu Band and works as a session musician and freelance musician.
